One of the things that I wish I had known early on in my teaching career is to better prepare for the day before… not wait until the morning of.
So many things can happen in the morning that are out of our control (alarm doesn’t go off, traffic, unexpected issues, etc.) and the worst feeling is getting to work and not being prepared! I always disliked starting my day off on the wrong foot.
Here are 3 tips that you can do before you leave school each day to help your tomorrow self:
- Organize your desk and clean up your desk/area for the next day.
- Nothing like feeling prepared when you walk into your classroom.
- Having an organized and tidy desk to start the day is always a good feeling.
- Change the date on your board and other items for the next day.
- This way you walk into a ready to teach board.
- Having the materials and resources for your lesson and students the next day out and ready to go.
- Organize class/student materials for lessons tomorrow.
- It will help you to be prepared in the morning in case anything comes up.
- Having worksheets, books, materials, etc. out and organized and ready to go for students is always a huge help.
- BONUS TIP: Emergency Substitute Plans
- Make sure you have at least 3 days minimum of emergency substitute plans.
- Have this is a specific location and make sure your Department Chair knows where it is in case of an emergency.
- You never know when you might get sick, jury duty, running late, sick kids, the list goes on and on 😉
What do you do for yourself before you leave for work to make your next morning easier?
As always, I hope that you have found this information useful and helpful to you!
Merci,
Amanda
