Can you believe it is back to school already!?!?
Why do summers always have to go so fast!
One of the biggest things for me when it comes time to go back to school, is that I always want to get everyone back into the groove of things before I actually start to teach my curriculum.
There is nothing more frustrating than having to reteach parts of a lesson because no one is paying attention or students’ schedules keep changing… Therefore, so do your classes! (I taught in a district where students could change their schedules the first 10 days of school!?!? So in many classes there was a lot of coming and going.)
Remember at the start of the school year students are excited to see everyone, especially their friends, they are getting to know their new teachers, as well as needing some time to adjust back to a typical school schedule after summer vacation. Same for us!
Another reason that I do a project at the start of the year is that I want to get the students thinking in French again! This will help them when I begin teaching the curriculum and the content I need to get through. We have to brush off those cobwebs from the summer!
One of my favorite projects is Les Régions de la France Projet. This gets the students feet wet back into the French language and allows them to learn about some French culture all at the same time. Who doesn’t love that!
