As the end of the school year gets closer, I always try to practice more writing activities with my students. I feel this is one of the areas some students struggle in, especially with conjugations, gender of vocabulary, making words plural, etc. I like to practice more with them, so they are better prepared for their final and end of the year exams that we may have.
A great way to help students with their writing skills are to incorporate writing tasks throughout the year.
Here are some easy ways to review writing in French or any language with your students:
- Weekly Journal
- Give students weekly prompts to write about in their journals.
- Do the writing exercises in textbooks, practice grammars, and practice exams
- Not the funnest way to practice but it does give them a good understanding of what is expected of them and they types of questions that may be asked.
- Exchange messages with a chat partner
- Students want to text in class! Let them! In the target language of course!
- Have students draw names or randomly partner students up and they can text message or email with their school emails back and forth.
- Pen Pal
- Have students write to a pen pal in the target language from another teachers class in the same school or a different school (put the letters through the school mail system) or with the same level that you teach.
