The Best Back To School Activities

The Best Back To School Activities

The beginning of the school year is always a little chaotic! During the first few weeks of school there is always a lot of shifting and change between getting new students, schedule adjustments and more!

We also need to get our students back into the swing of things and dust those cobwebs off from summer vacation!

On last weeks post, I talked about tips for the first day of school, including 10 tips to help make your first day as smooth as possible. Check it out!

When it comes to the first few days of school, I always like to start off reviewing with fun games, activities or even French projects with my students. I typically don’t start the curriculum until the second week of school, that way if I get new students during the first week everyone is still on the same page when it comes time to dive into the curriculum. Where I worked the students could change their schedules within the first 10 days of school, which made things a little hectic! Students getting added, dropped, changing of class periods, etc. So to alleviate a headache on my end it just made sense to go over the class procedures, class routines and review material for the first two weeks of school and then start the curriculum.

Here are some of my favorite activities that I like to use to get students back into the swing of things!

Choice Board:
This is an activity or lesson that can be used for students to practice their vocabulary.
There is a lower level and upper level version included.
As an activity you can give the assignment to the students to complete outside of class and have them turn it in on a later date.
As a lesson it will take approximately 2-3 days to complete. This all depends on the level of your class, how many of the activities you would like the students to complete or how many days you would like to dedicate class time for the students to complete the activity.
Stations Activity:
This is a lesson/activity that can be used for students to review certain topics in French including verbs, subject pronouns, sentence structure, days of the week, months and more! You can have students complete the activity individually or in groups. This is a great way to start off the school year, after a long break or just for some fun review to get students back into the groove with their French.
This lesson will take approximately 1 day to complete, depending on the level of your class.
Les Régions de la France Project:
This is a lesson/project that can be used for students to get to know the regions of France. Students are to complete the project individually and then present their project to the class. This is a great way to start off the school year and get students back into the groove with their French.
This lesson will take approximately 5-6 days to complete, depending on the level of your class.
French Games Bundle:
The French Games Bundle is a great resource for your go to French games and fun activities! This four pack bundle includes the following activities: Avalanche, BRAVO (BINGO), Chair Game and Roll 6.

Check out my TPT Store for any resources you may need for your students to start the year off, including my newly created Back to School Bundle!

As always, I hope that you have found this information useful and helpful to you!

Merci,

Amanda
